Grand Viennese St Valentine's Ball 2008

Well, my feet are only gently protesting my treatment of them last night, and my legs not at all - though I'm not sure I'd like to put them to the test again by going to another four hours of Viennese Ball again tonight. Still, it was wonderful whirling round the wedding-cake interior of the Oxford Town Hall with Mirea, Alena and Becky, (or Eddie, briefly), and our party of eight definitely did our part to help the evening swing along. It was also great to meet Matty, who I'd known by sight from the Half Moon, but had never talked to before Lizzy suggested him as just the person to complete the group after someone dropped out two weeks before. Once again, I was far too busy dancing to take photos or videos of the dancers themselves, but I think that others in the party did. There was a larger orchestra this time, thirty-odd by my count, including a concert harp (sadly inaudible above the strings, brass and percussion, and the shuff shuff shuff of the audience dancing), which definitely gave a much fuller and more dominating sound than the smaller orchestra which played last time I danced at the Ball (in 2006). Anyway, pictures of us follow:

Everybody! Eddie, Maureen, Hossein, Becky, Matty, Alena, Mirea and me.

Becky and Hossein. The shot where Hossein had that piece of heart-shaped confetti on his forehead is thankfully blurred beyond use.

Alena, Hossein and Mirea. Not visible is the carved and painted crest of the City of Oxford in the background, which is supported on the left-hand side by an elephant covered in the heraldic marks for ermine, and on the right by a beaver with green fur and a blue and white striped tail. Er?
