
Gawd, there were a lot of people! That shot only takes in about two thirds of the crowd; when I spoke to a friend, Philippa (who had been working with the show for several years), she said it was the largest turnout she'd ever seen.
It was certainly the most professional mummer's play I've ever seen - in the above picture, you can see the Green Man as a shrub, but here's a better shot:

The other members were just as good, St George and the Turkish Knight with amazing head-dresses, and the doctor with a shower head round his neck rather than a stethoscope, and topical jokes about PFIs. The mummer's play went on a bit too long, though, and Prudence (the Queen of Sheba role) was pretty difficult to hear since the crowd was enormous and I was stuck near the back. Anyway, good fun, a beautiful day, and I got to see the Golden Hind on my way there as well.
